The wellspring project is complete. The water source has been raised, and a safe access built. Thank you TJP GENERAL CONSTRUCTION! Moisture-loving plants are now growing next to the pump house. We added gravel to level the access way, a bench for a quick rest, and an infographic that explains what an artesian well is and how it works. The retaining wall is finished! The goal for the retaining wall is to keep the lawn from encroaching onto the beach. There was a retaining wall on the beach in the past, but it was removed instead of being repaired. Overtime, we had lost much of the beach. We also hope that the retaining wall will help deter the geese from en-crouching. We widened the beach to 25’, added fresh sand, and cleared out all of the weeds growing in the sand. The retaining wall will be low - a sitting wall. Just high enough to discourage the geese and maintain a clean separation between the lawn and the beach. We also made the beach accessible to people with mobility challenges. We are excited about preserving the beach for generations to come. Many people and businesses have donated to help make this a reality! Thank you to all! Two benches for the accessible pathway have been ordered. Made of recycled plastic, these benches keep thousands of plastic items out of our landfills. Go Green!
Thank you to the Dickinson Area Chamber of Commerce for spotlighting the news and developments of recent months from the Lake Antoine Park Partners!
It is with great pleasure we announce that we have received the full amount requested for our "Lake Antoine Park Beach Accessibility Enhancements" project from Central Upper Peninsula Planning and Development Agency (CUPPAD).
We will need to match the $4,500 grant 1:1, so we appreciate your continued financial support. With this grant and your support, we will be able to make Lake Antoine Beach accessible to people with mobility challenges. The donation line (Become a Partner) is still open! Look for big changes at Lake Antoine this summer! The Artesian Spring project is progressing. Thank you to Superior Steel for the roofing material, Habitat for Humanity for the paint, and Joe, Kevin and others, for painting and roofing the well house. More to come as final paint goes up on the walls and door. TJP General Contracting LLC will complete their portion of the project very soon! Then we will bring in The Scouts, who will spend some time cleaning up the area. It should be really nice and much easier access to the water! |
