Great progress is being made to the build of the beach retaining wall at Lake Antoine Park! Trenching has been done, footers have been poured, and several courses of brick have been laid. The beach IS OPEN during construction, but for the safety of our patrons, we encourage you to stay out of the construction area.
The goal for the retaining wall is to keep the lawn from encroaching onto the beach. There was a retaining wall on the beach in the past, but it was removed instead of being repaired. We’ve lost so much beach as a result, and the geese just loved the ability to waddle up onto the grass to do their thing.
We are widening the beach to 25’ and adding fresh sand, as well as clearing out all of the weeds growing in the sand. The retaining wall will be low - a sitting wall. Just high enough to discourage the geese and maintain a clean separation between the lawn and the beach. We are also making the beach accessible to people with mobility challenges.
We are excited about preserving the beach for generations to come. Many people and businesses have donated to help make this a reality!
Two benches for the accessible pathway have been ordered. Made of recycled plastic, these benches keep thousands of plastic items out of our landfills. Go Green!
The wellspring project is nearly complete. The water source has been raised, and a safe access built. Thank you TJP GENERAL CONSTRUCTION! Moisture-loving plants are now growing next to the pump house. We are adding gravel to level the access way, a bench for a quick rest, and an infographic that explains what an artesian well is and how it works. A few added details to the pump house, and then we are ready to start on another project!
UPDATE: gravel is on site. Needs to be spread, but see photo.
